In this episode of Queer Eye, why did they choose this prank? Was it okay? based on Tan and Karamo's reactions to it what makes this wrong or right?

In this post, I just wanted to go over the Queer Eye episode analysis and dive deeper into the prank that happened during the episode.

I described the prank and situation in this blogpost, and I have been thinking a lot about it and what it means. I also had a conversation with some of my family about it and wanted to get their thoughts about what happened, because I love the show so much I didn't want to have a bias. What I gathered from talking to my brother and my boyfriend about this situation is that in the end it was a prank but that doesn't always mean it was a good one.

The cop was going to pull this prank no matter who was in the driver's seat of the car, whether it was Karamo, Tan, JVN, Antoni, or Bobby, it happened to be Karamo who is black and that is why this became a bigger issue. If JVN, Antoni, or Bobby were driving the car that day it would not have been an issue and the conversations that happened later in the episode most likely would not have happened. This is a good and bad thing.

Knowing this it is a good thing Karamo was driving because it opened the conversation up, and according to the interview, Karamo had really opened both his mind and the police officers' mind.

On the other hand, it was not such a good thing because of the political climate we are in right now. When the media is filled with black people being mistreated by police and pulled out of the car for no reason, it is not a time to prank a black man to get out of the car in the deep south.

I think that it is a double-edged sword to be honest. I think that both sides learned from this situation, but does this make it okay? I am not sure, I guess that is up to you to decide.
